Todd

Oslo's answer to the Peckham Terminator, the prolific Terjinator has done it again with this edit of Lindstrom's Ra ako st. I like to imagine Todd Terje hiding out in a log cabin under the northern lights hard at work behind his laptop, churning out quality remixes - wherever he does it he's on to a winning formula.

I think I've put this on the blog before (I've definitely listened to it a lot of times), but I still love it. Todd's remix of the frankly less than cool Osmonds:

Organ

I really enjoy the deep house bass and crisp hits of this track, peppered with just enough space piano to take you on a cosmic journey. It's the original mix of "The Organ Track" by Thomas Gandey:

Turbo's ZZT (aka Tiga & Zombie Nation) have once again given the world an excellent electro edged house-hip-hop cut in the form of their latest tune "Nickel und Dime". The track is a little short, but hopefully there will be some extended mixes out soon: [Video NSFW]

Soulwax have just uploaded their remix of Sprawl II to youtube. It still has the Soulwax sound of electric hits and bells, but the boys from Belgium have moved with the times in more of a minimal direction. I was going to say it's quite different from the 2007 smash remix of The Klaxons' Gravity's Rainbow and play it below, but I've listened to it again and it doesn't sound that different; they both sound so Soulwax.

Instead why don't you check out the original version of Sprawl II, from 2010's Arcade Fire album, the Suburbs:

Free Hugs

I first heard The 2 Bears on Annie Nightingale's show last summer, but then I completely forgot about them. What a fool I am, that's half a year of missing out on their fruity tutti tunes. I think I need to make up for lost time, starting with Bear Hug:

I don't know if I should be too harsh on Lethal Bizzle about his latest track. I was going to say something about jumping on the dubstep bandwagon with the wide bass for the track Not A Saint, but to be fair to him I think thats just the way UK hip-hop / Grim is going.

One thing is for sure and that is the video is shit, if you want a decent video check out M.I.A.s track from last month: Bad Girls.

The Current Pun

Data seems to have squezed the best and the worst of '80s rock into his tracks. Expect to hear a lot more from him since his catchy track One in a million was used in a car ad.
I'm not sure if like Data, but i do like his name, though it is quite similar to the ace Norwegian duo Datarock.

I'm getting pretty bored of crap DJ names, based on lame puns. As a half arsed DJ myself, thinking of new DJ names is something I do all the time (much more regularly than actually playing live), basing your name on someone else's just seems lazy.

Joy Orbison maybe a talented DJ but his name makes me think of a crappy tribute act, some shit pastiche of someone elses fame. Maybe you disagree, maybe you think Ceefax is a crappy name and I should shut up, let me know below, on facebook or twitter

Some good bands done some albums

I am disturbingly excited by the new of Montreal album Paralytic Stalks released last week . It's simply fantastic...

Next up, an old Exeter favourite Paddy Johnston & the love explosion did this short album songs on a comically small guitar which is lovely. You can download the tracks (for free) and read his blog over on his website.

Lastly, while we're on this theme - thought I'd slip in a mention of the bombay bicycle club - brilliant band I only discovered recently. They feel like a slightly less clean pheonix? anyway this is your eyes:

Zebra fucking Katz!

If you like your music low and unnerving them you will love this odd track by Brooklyn fella Zebra Katz, featuring Reddd Foxx:


This track is just as weird but a little less intimidating, infact it almost reminds me of a friend of mine...



I don't much out about this guy, but I'm pretty out of touch sometimes - I wouldn't be supprised to find out he's had a the Christmas number one and I wasn't paying attention. Anyway here is a mix of some of his tracks if you need more Katz:

Chill Please - I'm Hung over

First off, Thanks to everyone who came to noiseban.02.12 on Friday, at the Russian Bar. Great night.

Just thought i'd put together some superchilled out music to deal with the old sunday hang over:

first up, Hammock - Can almost see you.

Really nice band, check out all their stuff over at band camp where you can also buy their albums and jazz...

Next up, some good old fashioned Texan post-rock by The Clam Blue Sea with We happy few- check out their website for tour dates (mostly in the US).

Lastly is Paper Birds by the Icelandic band Parachutes who unfortunately split up in 2009. If you've noticed the likeness to sigur ross, its because they shared some band members. Following the break up, all of their albums have been released for free as explained in the Swedish bed music blog.

Noiseban .02.12

UPDATE: Noiseban .02.12 will now be at RUSSIAN BAR (267 Kingsland Road)

So it's less than a week until the next Noiseban, the first one for a while. We'll be in the cellar of The Russian on Kingsland Road. - Downstairs, now that's where the fun will be happening. Get there before 11pm for free entry and a chance to see TheGreenLazer kick things off with a few choice Hip-Hop tracks. Later on, I (Ceefax B) will be playing some Disco & House and maybe a little Electro, followed by John Bailey (Egg the Teens) playing the same sort of stuff. Things will get a bit more hectic when Monsieur Ferro and Full Stop chuck some big Electo sounds in the mix. Good friends of Noiseban, the very busy Fanny Games will hit the decks for a DJ set at around 2am. Before we close up for the night expect to see the usual noiseban free-for-all with everyone playing head-to-head.Friday 2nd December

Chill & Trip Hop

First up, Got wind of this relatively unknown artist King Singh from Steve Strong over at White Elephant Clothing. This track, 'wood or wire?' has a sweet video and is probably his best work so far. check it out:

French!

Justice have a new album out, and the title track is pretty self descriptive; "Audio, Video, Disco".
It seems like a million years since they released the single "Civilization" and this time they've ditched the rock guitar and drums for some smooth synth sounds. The first thing I though when I heard the track AVD was these guys are unmistakably French. It isn't just their accents, this track seems to pull together bits of Air, Daftpunk's more relaxed songs and a touch of Yuksek. I can't tell you what it is about this song, but it's definitely French.
Yuksek's album "Living on the Edge of Time" was out this summer, I recommend getting a copy. This is his latest single, "Always On The Run":

London riots

I'm not a teenager, I never had an Atari (I had a Commodore 64) and I avoided the London riots like a scared little mouse - but I do like Atari Teenage Riot:

They remind me of my angst filled years when I listened to punk music, but with none of the cheesy nostalgia of playing an Offspring album. This recent remix by Tony Senghore sounds a little bit like what the clubs were playing 2 years ago, but I still like it:

Special Sauce

I've just been listening to Crystal Fields by The Special Ks, it's pleasant enough - a bit like one of the Mystery Jets housier tracks as sung by Daniel Bedingfield (not that it's necessarily a bad thing!)

The whole time I was listing to the track I was expecting it to get heavier, a skillful remix could really give this song some depth. something like this Toddla T remix of Wave And Wine by Schlachthofbronx:

Saying that, the original mix is hardly subtle:

8-Oh's in the200-Oh's

Cheesy? Possibly - but still, 80s Synth recreated with the wanders of modern techno-knowled-G-unit can give you a feel good warm feeling like no other. What do I speak of? This:

Now tell me that wasn't good? If you just told me that wasn't good I disagree. It was good. Actually it was Exercise 4, a semi-bonus track on Bent's album Ariels which you really should buy here. Bent blow my mind like a dyson air multiplier blows out a candle: effeciently, with minimum noise and maximum techno-joy.

Next - Some flashbulb (aka Benn Jordan), I posted one of his acoustic tracks recently, well such is his talent he also owns at electronica, like with this track Nightmares from his album sleep

By the way, you can listen to a LOT of flashbulb tracks, and buy the albums directly from him for a not unreasonable amount of money at his bandcamp page

Anyway's, in an album I feel is too often under rated and blasted for being "pop", a great track that reuses a 80s synth to the maximum is Mylo's In my arms from destroy rock and roll. If you want to here almost perfect sampling and production this is defiantly one of the top albums of all time. buy the album anywhere

By the way - we're putting on a noiseban at the victory in Hoxton on the first Friday of December.
