Liam Beans

Hey relax, you look tense. I know what you need - some chilled out Trip Hop. I know just the guy to sort you out: Beans.

Beans (A.K.A. DJ Propolis) is a Candaian mate of mine, I'm listening to one of his mixes right now and my heart rate has dropped to like 5bpm or something. Unfortunately unless you're planing on going to British Columbia any time soon, your chances of seeing him play are pretty low. You'll have to settle for this live set he did for Uvic recently:

Edit:
I forgot to say, he has some interesting stuff on soundcloud too.

Aeroplane

I got this album a little while back and it's my favorite at the moment. Every track on it (except Good riddance) is a brilliant slice of smooth disco. I wanted to play a few tracks from the album, but they are really difficult to find online. The title track is a blend of psycadellic space disco witha real late 70's feel mixed with a reaggae sound and an modern feel:

Other excellent tracks on this album include the dreamy "Fish in the sky" and the electro edged "Without lies". You should definately get a copy of this album.

Ravi Shankar & Ustad Alla Rakha

Stumbled across this recently and it really blew me away-

shangaan electro

Hej hej, I've been hibernating for the last couple of months - thanks to Monsieur Ferro for keep the blog alive while I've been sleeping. This is just a quick post to share something a friend of mine pushed my way: Shangaan Electro. I don't know much about it - so this might be yesterdays news. Anyway it's from South Africa and it sounds pretty unique:

Lord Francis Lobotomy's Audio Review-o-grams

Dear Sirs,

What a treat, it's me again, Lord Francis Lobotomy with my synaptastical analysis of another release for your pleasure.

Please find following my review of "Honey Mine" by the band "Korallreven".

Well the track "Honey Mine", to me, sounds like listening to the eighties with your head submerged in a bath. Whilst it feels nice initially, very quickly you'll tire of the fluffy echoes. Be careful, too much fluffy echo and you'll want to take your head out of the bath and put it into an oven.

Infact I would say "korallreven" really is quite awful, The only redeemable aspect of "korallreven" is the boldness of naming all their tracks after sexual practices. But even with that I'd rather be Ted Hughes than listen to any more of this drivel.

Just to remove any danger of those
grim, hideous, awful, disgusting, abominable, appalling, beastly, disgusting, dreadful, frightful, ghastly, grisly, gross, gruesome, hateful, horrendous, horrid, loathsome, macabre, monstrous, morbid, nasty, odious, offensive, ugly, awful, detestable, repellent, repugnant, repulsive, revolting, shocking, sick, and uncomely sounds from staying in your consciousness for a second longer listen to this immediately...

Lord Francis Lobotomy's Audio Review-o-grams

Dear Sirs,

Welcome! It is I, Lord Francis Lobotomy with my synaptastical analysis of the latest releases for your pleasure.
Please find following my review of "In A While" by those young whippy cads "Beaches" on their album "Eternal Sphere".

Taking the expression "tonight we're going to party like its 1999" quite literally it feels like this jibs's already been flown by stereolab. "In a while" is a reasonable track but already a bit dated & I can't help thinking it sounds a bit like being stuck in a lift with a 16 year old wearing Doc Martins.

That said, the guitar is impressively punchy for what is essentially drone, & it isn't horrible. Yawn, the problem is when you're as old as I am you'd rather listen to some good old pioneering 90s post-rock rather than some new aged fangled post-rock.

I promise to write soon,

Your ever loving servant,

Lord Francis Lobotomy
