Tame Impala - Lucidity
This has got to be one of the best music videos I've seen. I like the song, it's got a dreamy 60's kinda feel to it, but I love the video. Check it out:

At War With The Mystics
I just got back from Bestival and I've gotta say, I had a hoot! I wont bore you with all the details, there was way to much cool junk for me to mention it all, but here are some of my choice cuts:
Chilly Gonzales
I was banging on about him not long ago and do you know what? I was right. You know when you go to a house party and some fuck gets out their guitar, and you think "What a bell end, I was listening to the Mr T rap!" Well imagine that the guitar is a piano, and that fuck is actually pretty awesome. Well, that's a little bit like Chilly, sort of. What I mean to say is his show was a chaotic disco piano masterpiece. At one point he stood on the piano and played it with his feet and it still sounded good. He finished with this track: (You may recognise it from the iPad adverts, which Chilly pointed out is an anagram of Paid)
Fever Ray
This was the most mysterious gig I've I ever been to. The stage was completely covered in smoke for the entire show, with Fever Ray lurking at the back for most of the time. A few lasers and Nan's livingroom lapshades provided the only light in the tent. When Fever Ray finally came forwards into the light she was covered by a bizarre mask. The magical rolling base and ethereal scandinavian vocals couldn't have been more calming after losing my mind in the madness of The Prodigy crowd.
The Flaming Lips
These guys have been around for a while now and I think they have spent most of that time perfecting their live show. I haven't heard anything new from them for a while, but who cares when they have such a good back catalogue. Their 1997 album Zaireeka was sold on four CDs, which needed to be played on four seperate hi-fis at the same time, luckily nothing that complicated was required to enjoy their show at Bestival. As ever they were fantastic and psycadelic.

Midnight Express
I don't know very much about this guy from Chicago called the Midnight Conspiracy. I could make something up, but instead I think I'll just listen to some of his tracks:
Crystal Castles - Vietnam (Midnight Conspiracy Remix) by Midnight Conspiracy
Tiga - What You Need (Midnight Conspiracy Summer of '87 Remix) by Midnight Conspiracy
Esser - Headlock (Midnight Conspiracy Dubstep Remix) by Midnight Conspiracy

Chilly Gonzales - I Am Europe
Chilly is a Canadian who's been hanging around in Europe for a few years now. Apparently he's toured with Peaches and does shows attended by the cool kids in Berlin. Erol Alkan and Boys Noize asked him to rework their track Waves and it sounds like this:
Đ•rol Alkan and Boys Noize-Waves (Chilly Gonzales Piano Remake)
I checked out the video for I am Europe and its got Tiga in it, this guy is connected. What I want to know is why no-one told me about him earlier. You can apologise for not letting me know about Chilly Gonzales in the comment box below.

Jump Around
Disclaimer out of the way I can confess that I (Ceefax B) don't know that much about Dubstep; I thought it was confined to a few bass loving parts of Europe. It turns out the Americans are getting in on the act too. Trawling the web for tasty sounds, I came across this fella; Jantsen from Boulder, Colorado.

Distant Relatives
On Friday I was planning on playing at least one track from the excellent collaborative album by Nas & Damian Marley; Distant Relatives. This is one of my favourite albums at the moment. In my opinon it's the perfect mix of hip-hop and reggae, contemporary but with a classic vibe. You might have already heard the single, As we enter:
I was planning on reviewing this album when it first came out, but instead I just hung around my flat like a stale fart. Well I'm doing it now.
The whole album has an African vibe, with lots of references to the hopes, troubles and common bonds beetween Black People across the world. If you didn't get the title Nas and DM have helpfuly put an image of Africa between their faces on the cover. The second track of the album projects quite a negative image of Africa; Tribes at War, featuring the Somalian rapper K'Naan:
The tone and tempo of the album rise and fall through out as does the level of hip-hop and reggae of each track, but they all sound good. The lyrical content of the album doesn't only dwell on Africa's problems, with Count your blessings and My Generation being particularly inspiring. Another good one is the final track Africa must wake up:
I was going to review another couple of albums Battle of the Sexes by Ludacris and Rebirth by Lil Wayne, but they're both so wack I can't really be bothered. Battle of the Sexes is just mediocre commercial hip-hop, but Rebirth is proper bad. There is one good track on Rebirth, angry colaboration with Eminem: Drop The world, which is the reason I thought the album might be good.
The rest of the album is laughably bad, it's a real arse-hat. Seriously what was he thinking? Lil Wayne has tried moving towards rock/metal and has made a real dog's dinner of it. He's mixed some shitty Kid Rock-Nickleback rock with rubbish 50 Cent rapping and a bit of awful auto-tune singing for good measure. It makes me want to take the CD out and hit it with a hammer (shame I downloaded it).

Ceefax Bizzel mentioned ye olde drum and bass a few weeks ago, Netsky anyone?...
Miike Snow - Black & Blue (Netsky Remix)

Bass in yer face London!
Only a few days till the next Noise Ban and it's set to be a bang-face party to get the summer started.
Here are some tunes to listen to while you practice your disco lunges:
Face Melter by the Northern Irish rude boys The Japanese Popstars, may not melt your face but it will hoof you right in the ears.
Fans of wobbley bass will enjoy Excision & DatsiK's rumbling track Swagga.
If you fancy something a bit smoother to get down to try Lorenz Rhode's Remix of Breakin' by Strip Steve.
See you on Friday!

Check yourself. And relax
I know some people are getting all worked up about politics at the moment, with lots of folks unimpressed with the election results. Don't worry about bugdget cuts, taxes and deficits, because the summer is on it's way and it's less than two weeks till the next Noise Ban. Here are some chilled tracks to listen to under the blue May sky...
Kicking things off is Gil Scott-Heron, this guy started of as a poet in the 70's and inspired a lot of the hip-hop which followed. He is most famous for the poem/song The Revolution Will Not Be Televised. This track is from the album I'm New Here, released earlier this year:
Gil Scott-Heron: Me and the Devil (mp3)
Emmy The Great is a little more folky than I normally listen to, but there is something interesting about their sound, they really remind me of Belle and Sebastian:
Emmy the Great: First Love (mp3)
To really get you in the summer mood, we'll finish with Shuggie Otis. This 70's track, Strawberry Letter 23 is named after the perfumed notes Shuggie's girlfriend would send him: (I don't know who the guy in the frame below is, I don't think it's Shuggie)
Shuggie Otis: Strawberry Letter 23 (mp3)
I have to confess, I don't have an Encyclopedic knowledge of all good music ever made, I heard Emmy The Great and Shuggie Otis on the excellent radio show Adam Buxton's Big Mixtape, check it out if you get the chance.

variety bucket
We are sorting out our next night at the moment, with some possible treats in store, I'll tell you more about that soon. For the time being you'll have to be satisfied with some tunes.
Last week I saw LCD soundsystem at Brixton Academy and they rocked. The sound quality wasn't great and it was difficult to hear the vocals but you couldn't fault LCD soundsystem for energy and atmosphere. Their new album isn't out till next month but you can hear the whole thing for free on the official LCD soundsystem website. The first time I listened to it I wasn't sure, but it is a definte grower. Check out the video for the single Drunk Girls, bizzar:
SlagsmĂ¥lsklubben are an interesting Swedish band who appeared on last years KitsunĂ© Maison Compilation 8. I think these two videos are a few years old, but I couldn't resist sharing them.
In a totaly different musical direction Cypress Hill have also got a new album out, you can listen to it on their website for free. I can imagine it's not everyones cup of tea, but I quite like it, especially the track Armada Latina, which has quite a summer vibe and really steps away from the rest of the tracks, check out the video here. I can't mention Cypress Hill without a link to Rock Superstar.

Egg the Teens will be performing a live set and the DJs include Ceefax B, Full Stop and Monsieur Ferro. Be prepared for a musical journey, taking in electro, house, dub-step, disco and techno with a quick detour via car-alarm and French missionary.
It's not fancy dress, but if you're the first person to turn up dressed as a bunny rabbit we'll give you an egg or something. Incidentally if you turn up dressed as Monsieur Ferro you get to DJ, or at least max out his tab at the bar.
Here's a picture of Egg The Teens rockin' out at Bestival, don't they look happy with their A-Ha flag.

Hang over music...
Drinking Russian Standard Vodka from an old sports cap Highland Spring water bottle last night resulted in a day of chilled out music listening to help me cope with feeling like "a bag of dicks" as a dear friend would put it.
Following is the top 3 highlights of the days listening:
This video is of the best (in my opinion) pop-jazz group, Esbjörn Svensson Trio, playing - Behind The Yashmak at the Jazz à Juan Les Pins festival. Sadly I didnt ever see EST live, and following the death of the pianist Esbjörn Svensson in 2008 I'll only be able to imagine how awesome it would have been.
Next up, we go back to the hip hop instrumentalist Aim's first album, 'Cold Water Music', with the track 'The Force' featuring Q.N.C. as the MC. (The skating is from the video Lordz "They don't give a fuck about us")
Finally, 90's hiphop pioneer Del tha Funkee Homo Sapien. I was pleased to discover he is STILL going strong. All his future gigs seem to be in the US/Canada.

Here's a bit of foamy disco for you:
The Swiss are a class act hailing from Austraila, check out their myspace, they spout some crap about being the only legit disco band around, ignore that nonsense and enjoy the selection of smooth sounds they produce.

Cosmic Mix
In Europe’s dark discotheques in the late 70s and early 80s “Italo” disco was the music of choice. To be honest a lot of it was cheesy crap, but some of it sounds as fresh today as it was back then. Ceefax B has collected a few old skool synth classics for your listening pleasure. I’m not sure of the exact definition of Italo, not all of the songs below are strictly qualify but that’s fine by me. A couple of the tracks sound a bit dated, but I think that doesn’t stop them being great, like the Donna Summer hit State of Independence, which has an all star chorus featuring Michael Jackson, Brenda Russell, James Ingram, Dionne Warwick, Kenny Loggins, Lionel Richie and Stevie Wonder.
Tracklisting:
Blade Runner, End Title - Vangelis (1982)
Penguins Invasion - Scotch (1983)
The Chase (Midnight Express Soundtrack) - Giorgio Moroder (1978)
Dr. Beat - Miami Sound Machine (Gloria Estefan) (1984)
Magic Fly - Space (1977)
Archeopterix - I Signori Della Galassia (1979)
State of Independence - Donna Summer (1982)
Another track which didn’t fit into the mix but is still worth a listen is Prison by the French trio Space:
